How We Built This Residential Modern Wine Wall in Atlanta
Professional wine cellar builders first learn about their client’s preferences and current interior design before discussing wine cellar concepts with them.
This customer’s Atlanta house included modern and contemporary design features. Our team at Custom Wine Cellars Atlanta did an incredible job of balancing the wine cellar’s contemporary design with its current appeal.
The glass panels that act as the wine cellar’s doors and walls are what give it its external appearance. This wine room’s glass element gives it uniqueness.
Next, we installed brushed chrome triple deep pegs from the Wine Cellar Designers Group into a white acrylic back panel to finish the interior of the glass wine cellar.
The peg racking, glass walls, and white back panels are crucial aspects that give this modern glass wine cellar a highly contemporary appearance. Our team then fitted an 8000 WhisperKOOL Ceiling Mount Cooling Unit.
To enhance the aesthetics of residential wine cellar like this one, the cooling unit’s vent is covered in the ceiling, and no cables, lines, or other ugly portions of a refrigeration unit are visible.
Sleek Designs using Wine Peg Racking and Modern Lighting System
IronWine Cellars’ triple-deep wine pegs with a brushed metal finish go very well with the white rear panel of this wine cellar. Three wine bottles can be stored on a single pair of metal wine peg racking systems without running the risk of toppling over.
Bottles placed on top of the peg racking will move very little, if at all, thanks to the rubber ring. These wine pegs are firmly fixed on a specially designed white rear panel to provide even more stability.
The owner’s collection of wines is enhanced by the ideal amount of light provided by the rear panel’s modest illumination. A light panel was installed between two ¾ inch acrylic boards to achieve the mellow lighting appearance. In addition, we designed shelves specifically for alcoholic beverages such as whiskey, vodka, and brandy. Wine cellar lighting from the light panels flows through the contents of these wines.
Efficient Cooling System Utilized for this Modern Glass Wine Cellar
As stated, the team equipped this Atlanta house with an 8000 WhisperKOOL ceiling-mounted cooling unit. When you open the wine cellar door, you can only see the cooling system vent, which is located in the ceiling.
The condensing unit was strategically situated on the house’s roof, with the remaining pipes and ducting system installed on the soffit above the wine cellar. This provided the cooling unit with a clean, simple appearance.
The temperature of the cooling unit is set to 58°F. This is within the optimal temperature range for storing wines between 50 and 59°F. In Atlanta, the lowest recorded temperature was 27°F, while the highest recorded temperature was 105°F.
These temperature fluctuations may result in undesirable spoiling and premature aging of your wines. As a result, if you’re considering creating a wine cellar in your home, include a sufficient cooling system in your plans.
Challenges Encountered Before the Team Started the Project
The sleek and modern wine wall looked good. However, before our team could begin working on this project, they needed to overcome a challenge. This Atlanta wine cellar was built in a location that received most of the day’s sunshine. The client requested the glass for the enclosure, which provided some issues for the wine cellar.
Constant sun exposure may cause undesired temperature and humidity variations and moisture inside the wine cellar. Frameless glass is not a realistic solution in this scenario. The heat of the sun would gradually enter the custom wine cellar.
The cooling unit would operate for a much longer period, if not continuously. Finally, the heat will generate condensation in the glass. Not only will it impede your view of your wine collection, but it may also disrupt the ideal humidity level in your wine cellar. If left unattended, this can harm your wines and increase mold growth.
To fix the condition, we installed metal-framed double-paned glass panels. Double-paned, metal-framed panels provide a superior seal than frameless glass panels. Because of this glass panel, the wine room’s cooling unit can perform more efficiently, and there will be no big condensation problems in the wine cellar.
